Annual High-Level Forum “Just Transition and Recovery Amidst an Ongoing War”

On November 22, our team participated in a key event in Kyiv, organized by the NGO Ecoaction and the Luhansk Human Rights Center Alternative. The forum brought together representatives from national and international organizations, including the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine, the European Delegation, the Heinrich Böll Foundation, as well as leaders of coal communities from Eastern and Western regions.

The forum served as an essential platform to discuss challenges and opportunities related to the recovery of coal communities, European integration, and environmental protection. Particularly valuable were the panel discussions on community transformation in conflict zones and the creation of new environmental initiatives.

During the event, we also held a working meeting with the Mayor of Novovolynsk, Borys Karpus. Together we planned the implementation of two significant projects:

  • Digitalization of water utility infrastructure, aimed at reducing water loss in the city;
  • Development of vocational education to prepare skilled workers for local industrial enterprises.

This forum reaffirmed the importance of partnerships between communities, NGOs, and international donors for Ukraine’s sustainable development. We are grateful to the organizers for the opportunity to participate in the event and are confident that collective efforts will lead to tangible results in community recovery and Ukraine’s integration into the European community.
